Somatotropinmangel führt zu Zwergwuchs, Somatotropin-Überproduktion zu Riesenwuchs. Somatotropin ist auch für die Laktation notwendig. Fette werden durch Somatotropin mobilisiert, und die Fettverbrennung wird gesteigert. Somatotropin fördert Knorpel- und Knochenwachstum.
